Here we go…
The month has come and gone like the cars going past the crowd down the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. What a great time of year for our students and staff. The celebrations, activities, and planning are all in full swing.
Prom was fantastic and the setting was wonderful at the Potawatomi Inn at the Pokagon State Park. The pictures were beautiful, the students and chaperones had a great night of dinner and dancing, and the afterglow event as CHS went well with the help of over 60 parent volunteers. Thank you to the advisors, Mrs. Wendorf and Mrs. Ness, the students, and the parents for all of their efforts that helped make this a "Moment in Time" to remember for everyone involved. The management at the Inn was so impressed with the character of our students that they contacted the school later and invited the students to apply for open positions for the summer and explained that they would carefully consider any student from CHS.
We held our May National Honor Society induction ceremony Monday, May 13. CHS inducted a total of 30 new members to our NHS chapter, and we are very excited about the great things these students will continue to accomplish as Coldwater Cardinals and beyond.
Each year the Branch Area Careers Center has a banquet to honor the business partners involved in the OJT programming. At the banquet, one senior student from each program is also honored as the Senior of the Year. This year, Coldwater High School had seven students recognized as the seniors of the year. Those students were: Karina Aburto in On the Job Training, Alex Bassage in Welding Engineering Technologies, Emily Larsen in Health Science, Bryan Sandahl in Building Trades, Sara Setser in Business Management, Marketing & Technology, Brooke Vanover in Culinary Arts, and Austin Victor in Electrical Technologies.
Some staff news: Congratulations to CHS Baseball Coach Randy Spangler whose team helped him achieve wins number 499 and 500 of his career! Mr. Spangler is only the 39th coach in the history of the state of Michigan to reach this milestone.
The Symphonic Band received a Division One rating at State Band Festival. The Band Boosters thanked the following people for their help over the last couple of weeks: Ken Delaney and WTVB for supporting the Pasty Sale, Nicole Paarlberg and the Walmart Distribution Center for donating a refrigerated truck, Dawn Hikade, CHS secretary (and CHS Maintenance) for their support with the Pasty Delivery, Bobby Heath, Co-chair of the Pasty Fundraiser, Sean Watson, for website support, Mr. Milnes, Teri Price, The Glei Family, Lisa Miller, and many parents for State Festival support, the exceptional band directors Mrs. Jewell and Mr. Wood, and all other Booster supporters.
Another recognition earned by CHS was in being designated a "Michigan Green School" again for the fourth year in a row. This only occurs through the hard work of our Team Green advisor Mrs. Lowder, the students who participate in the group, and the rest of the students and staff members.
There are many upcoming events, so please check your year-end calendars online. The CHS Band Concert is on Sunday, May 19th, at 4pm in the cafeteria. Next week, May 20-24, will be our Staff and Student Appreciation Week. We have special activities planned working in coordination with parents and the Student Council. The week wraps up with an appreciation assembly on Friday, May 24th, where we honor our class officers, we honor our class advisors, and the seniors have an opportunity to honor their teachers as well. We have our Senior Scholarship Night on May 22nd, our CHS Choir Concert on May 23rd at Tibbits, a dinner theater evening production in our cafeteria on May 24th, Senior fun night on May 30th, our Senior Convocation and Swing Out Walk on May 31st, Baccalaureate on June 2nd, our senior trip on June 3-4, and Graduation on June 9th. We will also be bringing all of our current 8th Grade students over to CHS for lunch and a program on Tuesday, June 4th. The Athletic Boosters have agreed to once again support free spirit t-shirts for all of our new students, so we will get their sizes on the 4th so we have their shirts ready for them in the fall.
Can you hear that next car zipping down the track?
